I started sculpting an African face about a  month ago and she’s almost done.  As with Devon, she is a combination of inspiration from many black runway models.  I have always loved extremely dark skintones and african features, so I was excited to start this sculpt.  I think she is coming along quite beautifully and she’s almost done.  I can’t wait to see her cast and complete.  In the meantime here is an early shot of the sculpt.  Its gone through many revisions since then.  Her left eye actually had to be carved out at one point and repositioned—I’ll be posting that picture later on.

For a good cause…

So along with winding up Sen, I had been and just last week finished a fully sueded OOAK lingerie doll for the Italian Doll Convention in Milan later this month. It was fantastic to meet Mario and Gianni in Paris and I agreed to make a doll for their charity auction. This auction is for the Fondazione Blu, a foundation for the care and education of children and their families in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. She will be on Ebay, May 15th  with 11 other OOAK items from well known artists. Please follow this link if you are interested in keeping up to date on the auctions:

And of course here is a preview of   “Nereia“.

Less than a SENnight before Paris…

Its about this time before a convention or long trip, when I start getting anxious. “Ok, do I have all the things I need to bring—wait, what is it I need to bring again?  Do I really need that? I hope I don’t forget anything!”  Well at least I’ve gotten all the pictures of Sen done, so here they are for ya’ll to see.  Enjoy

a SENnight before Paris…

So about a week before the convention and here is Sen in most of her regalia. I’ve always loved and studied historic dress in my spare time since high school, which actually really helped when I designed video game characters. The days of elves, dwarves and scantilly clad warrior women are past, however its always fun to have them creep in a bit into the Numina line like those golden scales on FDQ Devon’s epaulettes or somewhat here with Sen’s lace overlaid taffeta cape. You’ll get to see her in full in a few more days, so keep checking the site.

Sen in her first tease…

Ok, about halfway done with the outfits—-I think I will be bringing materials with me to Paris to get as much done as possible in the evenings. Will there ever be a convention where I am not working up to the last minute and beyond? Well, enjoy the teaser, with more to come. :)

Paris Fashion Doll Festival is almost here!!

I can’t believe there are less than 2 weeks left till the PFDF—I’m actually glad I didn’t go to IDEX as I would be even more behind than I am now. There will be a LE 10 Devon for pre-order at the festival called “Sen”, which is the vietnamese word for “Lotus”. With the theme for the festival being the “Renaissance” I thought the lotus flower appropriate.

I have finished painting and putting together all the dolls thank goodness, and for the past few weeks just sewing like crazy to get all the clothing done for this edition. Its fun creating a new outfit, but to have to sew 9 more of the same outfit is, well…tedious. Alas, I will not be done in time for Paris, so this is why I will be doing a pre-order there, with a 50% deposit. Sen will then ship in late April—hopefully a little before then. I will have a completely finished Sen there for attendees to see and photograph though. Below you’ll see my initial sketch of the outfit, and next week I will be posting a couple of more pictures. click on pic for larger view
